English is an official language in Botswana. It is taught at schools, and is widely spoken in all urban centres. Even in rural areas, many local villagers (especially younger ones who have received schooling) will be able to converse in English. All guides and general staff in the camps, lodges and hotel have a good command of English.

German, Italian and French translators are available on request through your travel operator or agent. When staying at a private camp or lodge, your guide can act as interpreter if necessary during social interactions.

Electricity is supplied at 220/240v. Both square (UK) and round (RSA) wall plugs are used.

Firearms licensing in Botswana is strictly controlled, and all firearms imported under the authority of an import permit must be licensed immediately upon arrival. The importation of firearms that do not have the manufacturer’s serial number or other number by which they can be identified, stamped or engraved on a metal part of the weapon is prohibited.It should also be noted that police permits for firearms are issued on a limited quota basis. Considerable delays can occur in obtaining a permit, particularly on first importation. It is advisable for intending importers to apply well in advance of dispatch, so that unnecessary inconvenience and expenses are avoided.

In Botswana, one is not under any obligation to offer gratuity (tips) for services rendered at restaurants, bars, hotels, etc. It is at the discretion of the individual whether or not to pay gratuity for services.

Botswana is an all-year round destination. The two distinctive seasons give varied all round terrific experiences. 
The green season which is the wet rainy season, is blessed with Botswana showers, the areas become lush and green thus becoming favourable for plains game to give birth to young. This in turn presents favourable conditions for predators as well, as food becomes abundant. The green season is also a haven for birders as all migratory birds arrive to breed in the warm condition of the southern African warm weather.  Birds can be seen in all stages of plumage. Breeding, fledglings, juveniles. 
The peak season is dressed with the winter dry colours of khakis and olives as the vegetation sheds leaves to conserve water during the dry months. the pool waters from the rain dry up but the rivers fill up from the Okavango floods thus concentring game in certain areas. The winter sunsets become dramatic with dust hazes.

Binoculars, torch, insect repellent, lip salve, sunscreen, sunglasses. Cosmetics, medications, and cigarettes are all available in the major towns, but if specific brand names are needed, it is best to bring enough to last your stay.

However, care needs to be taken to comply with international aviation security regulations for items in carry-on luggage and customs regulations.

• In summer, lightweight, light-coloured cottons are preferable.
• Garments of neutral colours that blend with the bush and forest are advisable for safaris and game viewing.
• Avoid synthetic materials and black clothing, as they increase perspiration and discomfort.
• Bring a lightweight jacket and/or jersey for unexpected temperature changes or rain.
• In winter, wear trousers, long-sleeved shirts/blouses and jerseys.
• From May – August, night temperatures can fall below zero degrees Celsius, so warm jerseys and jackets are vital, especially on morning and evening game drives.
• Closed, comfortable walking shoes or gym shoes are a must in all seasons.
• Special attention should be given to protection from the sun. Bring a sunhat, good quality sunscreen, sun lotion and polarised sunglasses.
